Humans need connection.
For this piece, my goal was to focus on the genuine contentment and emotional calmness that comes with intimate human connection. Not only in the romantic sense, but the platonic sense as well. My passion for human connection is one of the major driving factors in my design work.
Mind-mapping my ideas opens me up to a wide variety of subjects and more nuanced topics that I wouldn't have considered initially. I've found it helps deepen the meaning of my work and helps me better understand what I'm creating, and more importantly why I'm creating it.
Don't you have a good luck charm?
I wanted this piece to have a strong emotional effect on the viewer by mimicking a scrapbook/memory box. It should feel as though they are sifting through someone’s life through scraps, photographs, and objects.
I was able to hunt down a lot of my parent's and grandparents old mementos and keepsakes. What I didn't anticipate was the conversations that sparked from seeing old photographs and seemingly insignificant objects!
